Check out the live staged reading of select scenes from WONDER DRUG by Emersonian Caitlin McCarthy as a special fundraiser for DES Action USA (www.desaction.org) on Sunday, April 18 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Cinespace (http://www.cinespace.info/Welcome.html) in Los Angeles.

Confirmed for the live staged reading on April 18 thus far: Emersonian actress, stand-up comic, and voice over artist Alicyn Packard; actress Juliet Landau, best known for co-starring as Loretta King Hadler in Tim Burton's ED WOOD and for portraying Drusilla on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and spin off show "Angel" (the latter appearance earning her a Saturn Award nomination); actor/writer/producer/playwright John Buffalo Mailer, soon to be seen in WALL STREET 2 and previously selected as one of People Magazine's sexiest men alive in 2002; Kent Osborne, a three-time Primetime Emmy nominated animator, author, storyboard artist and actor; actor Scott Atkinson; and actor Tegan West! Stay tuned for more exciting cast announcements.

ABOUT THE EVENT: $10 minimum donation at door (cash only). Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Reading will take place at Cinespace in Los Angeles from 2:00-2:30 p.m., followed by a Q&A until 3:00 p.m. Light snacks and cash bar will follow from 3:00-4:00 p.m. with music played from The Ruse's latest CD "Midnight in the City" (http://www.rusemusic.com). The CD will be on sale at the event for $10 each. The Ruse is generously donating 50% of sales to DES Action USA.

ABOUT THE SCREENPLAY: WONDER DRUG is inspired by the true story of DES, a synthetic estrogen seen as a medical miracle to help women with pregnancy issues and a cash cow for pharmaceutical companies upon its creation in 1938. However, by 1971, the reality of what the consequences are for taking badly tested, yet FDA approved, drugs like DES and the corruption of the pharmaceutical industry behind it becomes apparent. This is a hot-button issue that the public needs to be made aware of, because similar things are happening with drugs today. Set in Boston, Massachusetts, WONDER DRUG interweaves the lives of a Big Pharma executive, feminist doctor, and thirtysomething newlywed across different decades.

WONDER DRUG is currently in development with acclaimed independent director Tom Gilroy (SPRING FORWARD).
